Having looked forward to this and wanting to see it in 3D in the cinema, I got tickets for the relatives for Christmas. A slow and tedious start had me a little worried. Once the unexpected journey had begun I found it a bit more engrossing. A little too similar to Lord of The Rings in parts, I found the parts with new creatures and characters the most engaging, though felt not enough time was spent on Bilbo in comparison to the book. I still quite enjoyed it and will be interested to see Cumberbatch’s dragon next year!
